It's the defining moment in a relationship. It's the first step in taking a relationship from "right now" to "forever". Whether it be an elaborately rehearsed flash-mob style dance to Bruno Mars' "Mary You" or an intimate moment at home between just the two of you, the proposal is the most exciting day in a couple's lives (well, second to the wedding day, of course! Okay, okay maybe third if babies come along.) This month we're featuring one of our very own dGE couples, Samantha and David and their adorable proposal! Samantha is currently working with us from Michigan to plan her dream Connecticut wedding in the summer of 2017 and we can't wait to see these two tie the knot! But until then, here is their engagement story. "David and I both attended undergrad at the University of Michigan; we met during his first week of my sophomore year. He went to high school with my college roommate and my immediate reaction was 'Why the hell did none of you date him in high school?!' Of course, the timing was never right, but we became best friends and stayed that way for almost three years before we finally went on our first date ... to a BBQ restaurant (clearly we knew each other a little too well at this point)! Since I was a year ahead of him, I graduated shortly after and moved back to my home state of Connecticut to get my law degree from the University of Connecticut while David remained in Michigan to finish undergrad and then attend dental school. We suffered through four years of long distance romance, but we did try and see each other once every month which led to a lot of plane rides! After I graduated law school, I stayed in Connecticut and worked for a year. This past summer, a month before I moved to Michigan to be with David while he finishes up his dental degree, little did I know it at the time but David was conspiring with my family and roommates to pull off the ultimate July 4th weekend proposal!. The night before, my male roommate was very interested in what I was wearing to work the next day (red flag #1). Clearly my east coast self wanted to wear all black, but he forced me to wear something bright (thank the Lord, crisis averted)! My employer, for the first time ever, let me leave work early due to the holiday. Since David's time frame was then moved up, everyone had to scramble to keep the plan. They decided to get me to the park across the street from my work by telling me my roommate needed to meet me because he was getting fired (red flag #2). How sweet ... cue my elevated blood pressure! I was on the phone with David while walking to meet "my roommate" at the park and saw two photographers taking engagement photos of a couple. I even remarked to David how cute it was. That's when David popped out from behind a tree, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. And surprise! The photographers were actually for us, catching every moment. They had even staged an engagement shoot so I would have no idea they were there for me. Both of our parents had also been hiding and came out to share in the magical moment! But that's not all! Apparently David and my parents had planned a surprise "going away" party with my friends, since they all knew I was moving to Michigan for David and a new job. They hadn't wanted to tell anyone it was really going to be an engagement party, so that no one would ruin the surprise. After he proposed, they told me we were just going to do a celebratory dinner with both sets of parents. However, when I showed up to Barcelona in West Hartford, all of my friends were waiting - most knew we were engaged at that point because I had called most of them to tell them the good news! However, two of my best friends from New York City did not get word until they were screaming "surprise" and someone said "isn't it great they got engaged?!" and the NYC crew was blindsided. It was hilarious! So many surprises that day! It was the perfect day, made even more perfect by such thoughtfulness from my fiance, our parents, and friends. We are definitely very loved! Now we are planning our Connecticut wedding from Michigan and luckily we have Maggie to help us plan from afar! I know it will be another celebration just like this one that I will remember forever!" ![]() GUYS. I mean, c'mon. It doesn't get more adorable than that! How thoughtful was David in getting that proposal together? And how perfect do Samantha and David look together? All of us from Double G Events wish them so much happiness in their upcoming wedding and life together! Love this proposal? Have a proposal story you're just dying to share with us?
